Mechanism of Action:

Dysport 500 U contains Botulinum toxin type A, which inhibits cholinergic neurotransmission at the neuromuscular junction by blocking the release of acetylcholine. This prevents the nerve impulse from reaching the muscle, leading to temporary muscle paralysis. The process of neurotransmission recovery is slow, typically taking 6 to 8 weeks in animal studies.

Pharmacokinetics:

Botulinum toxin type A has a high potency with a low dose and large molecular weight. It binds specifically to receptors, and the high receptor density increases its effectiveness. Effects usually appear 2–3 days after administration, with the maximum effect after 5–6 days. The duration of action varies between 2 weeks to 8 months, influenced by the binding, internalization, and changes at the neuromuscular junction.

Indications:

• Adults: Dysport 500 U is indicated for the treatment of localized muscle spasm in various areas, including around the eyes, face, neck, arms, shoulders, and legs.
• It is also used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), urinary incontinence, and conditions related to spinal cord injury or multiple sclerosis.
