How to use Saxenda 6mg/ml solution for injection:
Usage: Saxenda® is only administered subcutaneously. It should not be injected into a vein or muscle.
Saxenda® is injected once daily at any time, regardless of meals. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. The injection site and time can be changed without adjusting the dose.
However, it is best to inject at the most convenient time. If a dose is missed within 12 hours, it should be injected as soon as possible. But if the time until the next dose is within 12 hours, the missed dose should not be compensated.
Dosage: The starting dose is 0.6 mg once daily. The dose should be increased to 3.0 mg once daily with incremental increases of 0.6 mg each week to improve gastrointestinal tolerability. If the dose is increased to the next level without tolerating it for two consecutive weeks, discontinuation of treatment should be considered.
Daily doses higher than 3.0 mg are not recommended.
Dose escalation over 4 weeks:
- 0.6 mg in the first week.
- 1.2 mg in the following week.
- 1.8 mg in the next week.
- 2.4 mg in the subsequent week.
Maintenance dose: 3.0 mg.
Type 2 diabetes patients: Saxenda® should not be used in combination with other GLP-1 receptor agonists.
When initiating Saxenda®, consideration should be given to reducing the dose of concomitant medications such as insulin or insulin secretagogues (such as sulfonylureas) to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
